Toju Duke

Toju Duke is a global thought leader in responsible artificial intelligence and one of the most influential voices shaping how technology serves humanity. As Founder and CEO of Bedrock AI, Founder of Diverse AI, and former Programme Manager of Responsible AI at Google, she has dedicated her career to creating fairer, more transparent, and more inclusive AI systems. Toju’s expertise bridges the technical and ethical, helping organisations understand how to design, deploy, and govern AI responsibly. She is also the author of two essential books on the subject, ‘Building Responsible AI Algorithms’ and ‘Responsible AI in Practice’, both regarded as practical guides for implementing trustworthy AI.

Toju’s professional journey spans more than 18 years across advertising, retail, non-profit and technology sectors. After earning degrees in Sociology and International Design, Marketing and Communication, she began her career in business development and marketing, working with Kajans Women’s Enterprise and Bargainz Central before joining Google in 2013. During her decade at Google, Toju held several key roles, including Dynamic Ads Specialist, Shopping Specialist, Hotel Ads Specialist, and Product Lead for Travel, EMEA, where she led product innovation across markets. In 2020, she transitioned into Google’s research and policy division as Programme Manager for Responsible AI, guiding ethical frameworks and AI governance across product and research teams. Her work focused on ensuring AI models were fair, safe and accountable, helping shape global standards in ethical AI.

Outside of Google, Toju founded Diverse AI, a community interest organisation that supports underrepresented groups entering the AI field through education, research and events. She later launched Bedrock AI, a company advancing responsible AI research and product development. Through Toju Duke Advisory, she advises leading organisations and governments on AI risk assessment, governance and business transformation. Toju has served as an Ambassador for Women in AI, an Ethical AI Network Member at The Institute for Ethical AI & Machine Learning, and sits on the AAAI/ACM AI, Ethics and Society 2025 programme committee. Her influence extends globally, with features on the BBC, Sky News, Al Jazeera, CGTN America and Sifted, and her books have been adopted by universities worldwide.
