Tim Collins

Former British Military Officer, Col. Tim Collins is best known for the role he played in the Iraq war in 2003. Famed for his speech to the 1st Royal Irish Battle Group of 2003, in which his words “the enemy should be in no doubt that we are his nemesis and that we are bringing about his rightful destruction”, “if you are ferocious in battle remember to be magnanimous in victory” and “we go to liberate, not to conquer” have gone down in history.

After obtaining a degree in economics, Tim began his military training. He joined the British Army as a second lieutenant for the Royal Signals soon after and worked his way up, becoming the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment. Tim has taken part in multiple high-profile operations as an aid to the UN Chief of Staff and the Project Director of the Peace Support Training Centre, receiving an OBE for his outstanding contributions.

Since leaving the army, Tim has appeared on Today on the BBC on a Panorama special Forgotten Heroes and was the host of the three-part documentary called ‘Ships That Changed the World’. He has also written Rules of Engagement: A Life In Conflict, a heartfelt book featuring personal tales of his diverse and demanding career. A testament to his relatability and ability to communicate his experiences, Tim’s views on military issues are widely sought- after.
