Laurence’s journey began with a BSc in Physics and Computer Science and a PgD in Microelectronics Systems Design, setting the foundation for a long and diverse career in technology. His early work as Product Manager at Vicon Industries and Senior Architect at Reuters gave him a strong technical grounding, before he became Director of Technology Evangelism at Mainsoft, leading on projects that enabled developers to build across platforms. He later joined Microsoft as Senior Developer Evangelist and Product Manager, where he guided global teams through emerging innovations in cloud computing and web development.
In 2013, Laurence moved to Google, where he spent more than a decade shaping the company’s global AI advocacy. As Lead Artificial Intelligence Advocate, he led programmes that expanded the developer ecosystem from thousands to millions, helped launch products reaching millions of users, and taught students worldwide through MOOCs on platforms such as Coursera, Udacity, and edX. Research he co-authored with Harvard colleagues received recognition at the CogX Awards, further establishing his reputation as one of the field’s most engaging educators.
