There aren’t many virtual speakers who have had the experience of being in a real-life warzone but that is exactly what you get with Jonathan Shaw. The former British Army Officer has served in a wide range of volatile conflicts including the Falklands War, Iraq War, and Bosnia War. And now he is bringing those fascinating stories from his 30-year military career to the speaking circuit.
Hugely respected within the British military, Jonathan has held a number of high-profile positions including working as the Director of Special Forces between 2003-2006. After graduating from the University of Oxford, he joined the Parachute Regiment in 1981 serving as the platoon commander in the Falklands War giving him a deep insight into the importance of strategy and leadership. Both topics he can bring to his virtual speaking events.
Following the completion of his front-line career, Jonathan utilised his experiences in a more strategic role. The influence of cybersecurity in modern-day warfare is more important than ever and in 2011 he was named the first-ever Head of the Defence Cyber Security Programme at the Military of Defence.
In this position, Jonathan oversaw cybersecurity and policy in a number of countries including India, Pakistan and much of Africa. Running these cyber campaigns (which were worth a staggering £90 million) has given Jonathan an in-depth understanding of the topic and at all his virtual events he is able to discuss this with audiences. Many of us are unable to imagine the realities of war but Jonathan gives an inspirational insight while also discussing key topics such as peak performance and life in the military.
