Jeff Dean is one of the most influential figures in modern computing and artificial intelligence. As Chief Scientist at Google, leading the company’s unified research division Google DeepMind, he is responsible for shaping the future of AI development. A visionary engineer with a gift for simplifying complexity, Jeff has built systems that underpin the internet as we know it. His work has transformed data processing, cloud computing, and machine learning on a global scale. Today, he continues to lead Google’s charge into the age of generative AI, ensuring innovation is grounded in ethics, transparency, and technical excellence.

Jeff began his journey with a BSc in Computer Science and Economics from the University of Minnesota, graduating summa cum laude, followed by a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Washington. Early in his career, he worked at the Western Research Laboratory at Compaq, developing profiling tools and exploring microprocessor performance. In 1999, Jeff joined Google as one of its first 30 employees, helping to build the company’s early infrastructure. His ingenuity quickly made him a key architect behind the systems that allowed Google to grow from a small start-up into a global technology leader.

Throughout his career, Jeff has been the driving force behind several of Google’s most significant innovations. He co-designed and implemented MapReduce, which revolutionised large-scale data processing, and built Bigtable, a distributed storage system still used across many Google products. He later co-founded Google Brain, the research team that laid the groundwork for modern deep learning and artificial intelligence. His leadership guided the creation of TensorFlow, now one of the world’s most widely used open-source machine learning frameworks. Beyond his technical breakthroughs, Jeff also spearheaded the design of Spanner, Google’s globally distributed database system that powers countless online services. These innovations have not only redefined the way data is managed and analysed but also influenced every major AI company working today.

Jeff’s work has earned global recognition. He has been elected a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery and a Member of the US National Academy of Engineering. He has received the ACM-Infosys Award in Computing and the IEEE John von Neumann Medal, celebrating his groundbreaking contributions to scalable computing. Away from Google, Jeff and his wife founded the Hopper-Dean Foundation, which funds diversity initiatives in STEM education. As a keynote speaker, Jeff brings deep technical insight, clear foresight, and a rare ability to make the future of AI accessible to every audience. His talks inspire leaders to think differently about innovation, ethics, and the power of intelligent systems to improve human life.
