Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee are two of Britain’s most accomplished triathletes, renowned for their outstanding achievements on the world stage. Alistair is the only athlete to hold two Olympic gold medals in the individual triathlon (2012, 2016), and boasts multiple World Champion (2009, 2011), European Champion (2010, 2011, 2014, 2019), Commonwealth Champion (2014), and World Team Champion (2011, 2012, 2014) titles. Jonathan is an Olympic gold medallist in the mixed relay (2020), silver medallist (2016), and bronze medallist (2012) in the individual triathlon, and was Triathlon World Champion in 2012. Both brothers have been recognised for their services to triathlon, with Alistair appointed OBE in 2025 and Jonathan receiving the MBE in 2022.

From a young age, both brothers demonstrated exceptional sporting talent. Jonathan began his career at Aireborough Swimming Club, still holding a longstanding backstroke record, and became British Youth Champion in triathlon and duathlon (2006, 2007). Alistair excelled in cross-country running, finishing second at the Junior English Cross Country Championships and winning the World Junior Triathlon Championship in 2006, which marked a turning point in his sporting career. Alistair graduated with a degree in Sports Science and Physiology from the University of Leeds, later completing an MSc in Finance. Jonathan studied History at the University of Leeds, continuing to balance academic excellence with elite sport.

Throughout their careers, the Brownlee brothers have dominated the international triathlon scene. Alistair secured multiple World titles, including ITU World Champion (2009, 2011), European Champion (2010, 2011, 2014, 2019), and Commonwealth Games Champion (2014), alongside victories in the World Triathlon Series, World Team Championships, and Aquathlon. Jonathan achieved six World titles (including World Triathlon Series Champion 2012, World Sprint Triathlon Champion 2010, 2011, and World Mixed Relay Champion 2012, 2014, 2019) and multiple podium finishes at the Super League Triathlon Championship Series (3rd place in 2021 and 2022). Between them, they have amassed an extraordinary tally of Olympic medals, World Championships, and Commonwealth Games golds, establishing themselves as icons of British triathlon.

Following Alistair’s retirement from triathlon in 2024, both brothers continue to inspire audiences worldwide as motivational speakers at virtual and live events, sharing insights into peak performance, resilience, motivation, and overcoming adversity. Drawing on their remarkable experiences at the pinnacle of elite sport, they captivate audiences with lessons applicable far beyond sport, offering a unique perspective on succeeding under pressure, managing setbacks, and striving for excellence. Their sibling rivalry and shared commitment have made them among the most respected and admired figures in modern sport.
