Matt Johnson is a leading Welsh television presenter, charity ambassador, and virtual keynote speaker known for his open, honest conversations around mental health. A recognisable face from some of the UK’s most-watched shows, Matt combines a successful media career with a powerful personal story of overcoming depression and suicidal thoughts. He speaks with authenticity, warmth, and emotional clarity – qualities that make him a standout voice on wellbeing, men’s mental health, and recovery. Now available to book for virtual keynote events, Matt brings energy, relatability and impact to any screen.
After a brief stint in acting, which included a cameo in Gavin & Stacey, Matt turned to television presenting. He began his broadcasting journey on ITV Wales, hosting Wales Tonight in 2009 and The Wales Show in 2010. Soon after, ITV invited him to London where he joined This Morning, presenting the interactive Hub segment until 2013 and even stepping in to guest co-host the main show. He went on to co-present Channel 5’s OK! TV and later took roles on BBC One’s The National Lottery Draws, ITV’s Surprise Surprise, and S4C’s Hwb. A familiar face to viewers across the UK, Matt also made appearances on celebrity editions of The Chase, Tipping Point: Lucky Stars, and Take Me Out.
Matt’s impact extends far beyond entertainment. In 2017, he fronted the moving S4C documentary Matt Johnson: Depression and Me, opening up about his own experience with mental illness. He has become one of the UK’s most vocal campaigners for mental health awareness, especially among men. His work with MIND, including running the London Marathon and raising over £50,000 in the Mind 3000s trek, has made a lasting difference. Recognised globally, he was named among the Top 50 Most In-Demand Charity Ambassadors in the World, and has worked with Time to Change Wales to fight mental health stigma.
Through virtual keynote talks, Matt shares how he survived his darkest moments, found tools to recover, and turned his story into a message of hope. He speaks from the heart, often tailoring his talks to include interactive reflections or Q&A sessions. Audiences connect deeply with his experience, whether at corporate wellness events, charity fundraisers, or virtual schools and colleges. Matt also created the #Checkin Journal, a self-help guide that encourages people to look after their mental wellbeing. His talks leave a lasting impact, not only inspiring action but offering practical ways for people to support themselves and each other.
