Luciana Berger

Luciana Berger is a powerful voice for mental health, inclusion and social justice. A former MP and one of the most influential female politicians of her generation, she is best known for being appointed the UK’s first-ever Shadow Minister for Mental Health in 2015. Luciana is a passionate advocate for better mental health support in the workplace, and her speeches offer a rare combination of political insight, lived experience and clarity of message. Luciana first entered Parliament in 2010 as the Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree, becoming one of the youngest members of the House of Commons. She quickly gained a reputation as a determined and principled leader, taking on roles such as Shadow Minister for Public Health and Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change. In these positions, she campaigned for improved access to mental health services, better maternity care, and stronger environmental protections. Her successful campaign to ban smoking in cars carrying children became law, and her #WheresYourHeadAt campaign helped put mental health first aid on the national agenda.

In 2019, Luciana co-founded Change UK, standing up for centrist values and a pro-European voice during a turbulent political period. That same year, she took a brave public stand against antisemitism in British politics, facing and exposing widespread abuse with integrity and strength. She later joined the Liberal Democrats and stood as a parliamentary candidate in Finchley and Golders Green. Outside Parliament, she has continued her advocacy as Vice President of the Jewish Leadership Council, Chair of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance, and Head of Public Affairs at Edelman UK. Her work has been recognised with multiple awards, including the Jo Cox Memorial Award for Bravery and Heroism, Jewish Care Woman of Distinction Award, and a place on Vogue’s “25 Women Shaping Britain’s Future”.
