Dr Jo Salter MBE is an award-winning keynote speaker, pioneer in aviation, and senior executive at PwC. At just 18, Jo joined the Royal Air Force and made history by becoming Britain’s first female fast-jet pilot, flying the Panavia Tornado with the elite 617 Squadron – a landmark moment that broke gender barriers in military aviation. Her story, rooted in perseverance, excellence and leadership under pressure, now captivates global audiences at virtual and in-person events. From leading missions over Iraq to transforming business strategy at one of the world’s largest firms, Jo’s experience spans high-stakes environments few have navigated with such success.
After earning her wings in 1992, Jo flew operational Tornado missions and was declared combat ready by the RAF in 1995. While serving, she pursued her MBA from the Open University, completing it in 1999. Following her RAF career, Jo transitioned into technology and operations leadership, holding senior roles including European Operations Manager at Automated Power Exchange and Managing Director of Saltin Ltd. She also became an Associate Lecturer at the Open University Business School, sharing her expertise in leadership and resilience with aspiring business professionals.
In 2016, Jo joined PwC as a Director and Chief of Staff, quickly becoming a central figure in organisational transformation. She later served as Director of Risk Technology Strategy, before being appointed Director of Global Transformative Leadership, where she led PwC’s global Workday rollout across 157 territories. In 2024, she was named Global Advisory Director for Generative AI, spearheading ethical AI adoption across the firm. These roles highlight her deep understanding of leadership, innovation and digital transformation at scale.
Alongside her executive work, Jo is a best-selling author, charity trustee, and advocate for women in leadership. She was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2022 for services to aviation and awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Bournemouth University. She has been recognised by the BBC and Harpers & Queen as one of the 50 Most Inspiring Women in the World, and in 2025 was named one of the Top 10 Motivational Speakers for Corporate Events by Global Gurus.
