Jim O’Neill is widely known as a leading British economist, famed for coining the frequently used term BRIC- Brazil, Russia, India and China. Throughout his career Jim has worked many credible roles for high-profile companies, including roles as the former Chief Economist and former Chairman of the Asset Management Division for Goldman Sachs. Other key roles include being a minister of the Conservative government, acting as the Commercial Secretary to the Treasury and created Life Peer, Baron O’Neill of Gatley.

After obtaining an MA and PhD in economics, Jim’s early career began with work at the Bank of America. Finding a passion for finance and economics, Jim later worked for banking corporations such as Marine Midlands Bank and Swiss Bank Corporation. During his time working with such firms, Jim built his detailed understanding of global economies, holding titles such as Chief of Global Research, Head of Global Economics Research and Economist for International Treasury Management.

Since retiring from Goldman Sachs, Jim has committed his time to sitting on a number of advisory boards. He is currently a member of the QFINANCE Strategic Advisory Board and the International Advisory Board for the Centre for Rising Powers at the University of Cambridge. As a leading authority on economics, Jim is also the current Chairman of the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership Advisory Board, putting to use his knowledge to advise the city on their economical state. Jim has also worked to forge the acronyms MIKT and MINT, displaying his knowledge of emerging economies and markets.
